CHAKRA POWER

ROOT CHAKRA

LOCATION: base of the spine, near tailbone – SOUND is “U” (as in CUP) – COLOUR: Red.

CHARACTERISTICS: physical identity, grounding, stability, basic needs, safety, security, trust, earn living/make money, our base or foundation for life, ability to withstand challenges, survival, ability to manage stress, associated with adrenals

IN BALANCE: grounded, centred, safe in our own body, secure, financially secure and trust in our survival.

OUT OF BALANCE: fear of survival, financial insecurity, basic needs and wellbeing, fear of homelessness, inability to cope with challenges, depression, fearlessness without precaution, hoarding, adrenal exhaustion, arthritis, constipation, eating disorders, leg, feet, tailbone, sciatica, bladder or colon problems.

SACRAL CHAKRA

LOCATION: below naval – SOUND is OOO – COLOUR: Orange

CHARACTERISTICS: creativity, sexuality, sensuality, pleasure, associated w. reproductive organs and kidneys

IN BALANCE: flowing creativity, ability to receive pleasure, open mind, accepting of change, able to take creative risks, embrace sexuality

OUT OF BALANCE: Low self-worth, generally and around pleasure, sexuality, and creativity. Difficulty relating to emotions and emotions of others, or expressing emotions/desires, fear of betrayal. Urinary tract infections, fertility issues, lower back pain, kidney, hip issues.

SOLAR PLEXUS

LOCATION:: above the naval/stomach area – SOUND is OH – COLOUR: Yellow

CHARACTERISTICS: personal power, self-esteem, confidence, self-respect, self-compassion, ambition, motivation, feeling in control of life, metabolism, energy levels, associated with pancreas and gallbladder, insulin, blood sugar levels

IN BALANCE: we feel empowered, ambitious, motivated, in healthy power dynamic in our relationships, good energy levels, able to stand our ground, feeling in control of our lives

OUT OF BALANCE: feeling out of control, unmotivated, unambitious, tendency to have unhealthy power dynamics in relationships, unrelenting inner critic, constant fear of rejection. Digestive issues like ulcers, heartburn, eating disorders, and indigestion, chronic fatigue.

HEART CHAKRA

LOCATION: centre of chest, above the heart – SOUND is AH – COLOUR: Green

CHARACTERISTICS: love, compassion, emotions, connection, forgiveness, bridges gap between lower and higher chakras, associated with thymus gland (immunity)

IN BALANCE: full of gratitude, compassion and love for yourself and those around you, forgiving, feeling connected to ourselves and the world around us, able to fight illness,

OUT OF BALANCE: Fear of being alone, insecurity, isolated, putting others first (to ones’ own detriment), over-loving to the point of suffocation, jealous, bitter, unable to forgive. Heart problems, asthma, and weight issues, upper back, shoulder, arm and wrist pain.

THROAT CHAKRA

LOCATION:: throat – SOUND is I (as in EYE) – COLOUR: Blue

CHARACTERISTICS: communication, ability to speak our truth and to be heard , associated with throat, jaw, teeth, gums, thyroid (metabolism)

IN BALANCE: clear speaking, speaking with compassion and confidence, able to speak one’s truth, feeling heard, self-expression, articulate, truthful yet firm

OUT OF BALANCE: inability to communicate clearly and express yourself, feeling gagged, not feeling heard, dominating conversations, gossiping, speaking without thinking, and having trouble speaking your mind. Constant fear of being out of control. Problems with voice, throat, thyroid, teeth, gums, and mouth, ear infections, neck and shoulder pain.

THIRD EYE CHAKRA

LOCATION: between the eyes – SOUND is  AY – COLOUR: indigo

CHARACTERISTICS: wisdom, intuition, insight, perception beyond ordinary vision, imagination, gut instinct, associated with pituitary gland (growth, reproduction, stress regulation)

IN BALANCE: intuitive, wise, imaginative, able to see the bigger picture, focused and determined but open to advice or ideas

OUT OF BALANCE: Difficulty listening to reality (“know it all”), not in touch with intuition, moody, stubborn. Headaches, blurry vision, eye strain, issues with sight or concentration, hearing or sinus problems.

CROWN CHAKRA

LOCATION:: top of head – SOUND is EE – COLOUR: white or violet

CHARACTERISTICS: connection to love/source/god/spirit/higher intelligence, awareness, intelligence, life purpose, enlightenment, associated with pineal gland (sleep-wake cycles, melatonin production)

IN BALANCE: unshakeable trust in inner guidance, feeling fully supported and fully held

OUT OF BALANCE: narrow-minded, skeptical, stubborn, rigid thoughts, analysis paralysis, monkey mind, constant fear of alienation or being separate.
